Michigan consistently ranks among the very best universities in the country.  The most recent California-based Gourman Report of Undergraduate Programs, which combines a comprehensive set of rankings, including US News & World Report's yearly statistics, ranks the University of Michigan first among all public institutions. The Gourman Report rates Michigan's philosophy department as third in the nation.

Angell Hall The 2002 U.S. News & World Report rankings rate Michigan as the twenty-fifth undergraduate institution in the United States. U.S. News ranks Michigan's undergraduate business school as second in the country, second in political science, and fifth in history.

The student body at Michigan is one of its most important assets.  Students at the U of M represent an extremely wide diversity of social, ethnic and economic backgrounds  -- originating from all 50 states and more than 96 foreign countries. There are approximately 20,000 undergraduate students enrolled on the Ann Arbor campus.

Ann Arbor is a beautiful college town of approximately 75,000 people.  Despite its relatively small size, Ann Arbor offers a tremendous environment for intellectual, cultural and social growth.   The city has a cosmopolitan atmosphere, with numerous concerts, film societies, plays and other social events every weekend.
